What’s Going on in MA Cannabis? Updates and More

Posted on July 22nd, 2024 to News

In every regard, cannabis is a new market, and getting all the details and quirks pinned down and ironed out over the last several years has meant a lot of adjustments for everyone involved. The executive director of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission also resigned at the end of 2023, which created a scramble to get the position filled. Therefore, 2024 has brought some new changes for recreational cannabis customers.

As a recreational cannabis customer in Massachusetts, staying in tune with the ever-evolving cannabis laws ensures you know what to expect when you visit your favorite dispensaries. At Collective, we’ll always do our best to keep you informed. Check out some of the changes that have taken place so far in 2024 to Massachusetts cannabis laws that could affect you as a customer.

No Hemp-Derived THC Beverages Allowed in Stores

Since 2018, unregulated THC products have been allowed to slip through the cracks of legislation due to the federal 2018 Farm Bill. Essentially, as long as THC comes from hemp, companies are allowed to inject THC into about anything and the products can be sold anywhere from gas stations to retail stores.

This led to an explosion of untested, unregulated THC drinks being available in Massachusetts. Many of those products were tested and found to have unreliable amounts of THC, or even worse, questionable chemicals and compounds. However, thanks to the latest moves by the Commonwealth, you won’t be seeing these iffy products at the local gas station.

At the end of May 2024, Massachusetts declared that any intoxicating beverage and food products made with hemp extracts could not be sold outside a dispensary. Therefore, from now on, the only place to find THC beverages and infused edibles will be at a licensed dispensary in Massachusetts like Collective. Thankfully, these products come from verifiably registered cannabis processors with products you can rely on.

At Collective, we’ve got a full collection of cannabis-derived THC-infused beverages from the most respected brands like Upstate Elevator, Buzzy, Cann, Pine + Star, and Honeycat. These THC beverages always deliver what they promise in terms of potency and ingredients, and they are made in a way that is perfectly compliant with the state’s regulations.

Cracking Down on Cannabis Deals

While we all love good prices on cannabis at Collective, Massachusetts cannabis laws as of late may mean some deals look different going forward, so we can mind compliance. The laws have always stated that dispensaries cannot offer coupons or discounts for recreational cannabis. However, dispensaries have worked through these restrictions by offering special pricing and customer loyalty programs to help customers save. Further, some dispensaries have still managed to provide deals and discounts on recreational cannabis without repercussions.

Unfortunately, the latest news from the Cannabis Control Commission is that the state will be more closely monitoring cannabis deals and discounts to ensure everyone complies. Therefore, you may not see the same collection of deals and discounts or special offers when you visit a dispensary in MA. This could reshape how cannabis dispensaries in the state offer special prices, but, rest assured, you will still have opportunities to save if you are an educated consumer and know where to shop.

While you may not see cannabis deals and discounts advertised or promoted at Collective, we will offer special pricing on your favorite products just the same. Just be sure to sign up for our newsletter to become a Collective VIP where you can get all the latest news about any special pricing we may have in store. Additionally, our menu always highlights cannabis products we feel are offered at the best prices.
